  Concerned Persons Group
Are you concerned about a loved one's substance use?

Hazelden knows how frustrating and frightening it can be to watch a loved one struggle with the use of alcohol or other drugs. That's why we've created a special group for people who are looking for answers on how to help. It's called the Concerned Persons Group from Hazelden.

The group offers education and support to individuals who feel frustrated and lost when it comes to their loved one's addiction. Group sessions will give you a safe and supportive environment to process emotions, learn healthy boundaries, and practice new coping skills. You will also receive guidance and support on how to discuss concerns about alcohol and other drug use with your loved one and how to present him or her with options for recovery, such as treatment and therapy.

Group Format
The Concerned Persons Group meets on Thursday evenings from 5 until 7 p.m. for eight weeks at Hazelden's Fellowship Club in St. Paul, MN. Before the first session, you will be asked to arrange a personal interview with the group facilitator from Hazelden. The interview gives the group facilitator the opportunity to learn about you and your personal circumstances, as well as help you understand more about how the group works and what you can expect.

The focus of the group varies slightly for each session. The typical format will include a presentation on a specific topic, such as boundaries, followed by group discussion. Sometimes the facilitator will use role-playing exercises or short videos.

The Concerned Persons Group is based on the Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) model developed by Robert J. Meyers, Ph.D., author of Get Your Loved One Sober.

In addition to the Concerned Persons Group, Hazelden offers a number of services for individuals with addiction and their families. For those in need of treatment, there are residential and outpatient treatment options. Family members and concerned persons can benefit from individual or couples/family therapy, as well as the family and parent programs that are offered regularly.
